Sometimes low energy, lethargy, or a lack of focus just strike. It can be frustrating to lose all your steam and momentum, with no apparent reason why. Energy can be drained by multiple different variables, like mental strains, emotional upheaval, or just horrible eating habits.

When you can figure out what is lacking in your day to day regime you can pin point where you are losing your energy from. You then can come home after work with energy to work on side hustles, hobbies, and other goals. You don’t get tired at 12pm wondering how you will ever make it through the day. With more energy you do more.

Below, I have created a series of questions to start the process of examining what energy you are using and how to replenish it.

Sleep plays a huge role in our energy. It is blatantly obvious to us when we are running off of very limited hours of rest. Sometimes we just aren’t getting enough sleep every night. What we get, is enough to do our job til about 3 in the afternoon.

Sleep is a payment system to your body. When you do not get enough you are putting ourselves in debt. If you don’t pay up that debt your body will pay it in other ways. So, think about the previous couple weeks and do you owe yourself some extra sleep? Are you caught up?

How To Get More Sleep

Making sure you aren’t laying awake in bed, trying to get your hours of sleep in can be challenging. So, be reasonable and try starting with a set bed time and wake up time. Consistency will help your body get tired around the same time every day.

Another way getting your body ready for bed it by having a night time ritual. A 20 minute habit, consistently done, will signal to your body that sleep is coming soon. You will start to get tired while doing your nightly routine and be able to sleep better.

Now, you may be doing everything I stated above but still wake up feeling like you need another 10 hours of sleep. Or, maybe you wake up feeling a lot of pain and discomfort, which can make you feel like rolling over and pushing snooze. Quality rest is essential to improving your energy levels.

How To Have Better Rest

Here are a few tips to help you have better sleep. Turn off TVs, and phones 30 minutes before bed. The light actually will effect your sleep. Notice when you eat and what you eat close to bed. You should give yourself time to digest and be comfortable before crawling into bed.

Don’t drink too much liquid, it will cause you to wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. If you are having difficulty sleeping because of stress or anxiety make sure you create a de-stressing nightly ritual. Plan to empty your thoughts before bed, if you struggle with a racing mind.

What you eat matters. Sugars and lots of carbs will cause you to get tired. That tiredness that you experience from eating is because you didn’t eat to fuel yourself. If you want to have energy throughout the day, you have to eat clean fuel. Think about adding more vegetables, proteins, and healthy fats to your diet.

What Food To Eat For More Energy:

Carrots

Salad’s with protein and fiber (Do simple dressings that don’t have added sugars and fats, like olive oil and vinegar)

Oats with fresh fruit

Blueberries

Almonds

Sweet Potatoes

Salmon

Eggs

Sitting all day at work is not good for our bodies. When we move more, we have the energy to move more. Exercising on a regular basis gives you more energy. You will build up your energy levels expecting to work out every day.

It takes time to build up the energy, so don’t dive in too quickly and get deterred. Try working out 3 times a week. Make sure you sleep extra to recover from the workout and after a few weeks you will realize that you just workout and it isn’t a big deal.

Believe it or not, negative thoughts are a drain. They are a drain on our energy levels. Think about it. In the morning when you start dreading the work day or whats to come, you will be tired by 12pm. You use so much energy on negative emotions that of course you are feeling exhausted.

This means stress and anxiety are huge energy drains. Doubting yourself and beating yourself up are huge drains. Start assessing where your thoughts lead you. If you are thinking negative thoughts whether about you or someone else, they are a drain.

How To Fix Your Mindset

Now, fixing your mindset is one of the more challenging endeavors you can take, but, also one that makes doing everything else that much easier. Changing your mindset is as easy as choosing to stop the negative thoughts I don’t want to get too deep in to the how you are going to do it. What I do want you to understand is that your thoughts are in your control

You have the master of your mind. What you choose to think about is up to you. Where you allow your mind to wonder is on you. Those things are all on you. Know that it is challenging to continuously monitor your mindset and change it. But, the more you work on it the easier it becomes.

More energy is something we all want. These 5 questions should help you understand what causes your lack of energy and why your energy is so low. You don’t have to feel tired all the time. You can have energy ALL day.
