Do you ever feel completely drained? You work hard and come home with a fried brain? What exactly are you supposed to do? You are to do something that enjoy, that you have passion for. What would that be?
How many of us have a hobby? Now, when is the last time you actually did your hobby? Some of you may say, "I don't know what my hobbies are anymore." You lost them while you have been trying to achieve career goal after career goal. It’s okay, you are a boss lady and it happens
Let’s go back to what hobby is, it something that you have passion for. Something that excites you. Something that you could get lost in for hours. Something doesn’t require you to make a monetary gain from it.
What are My Hobbies?
Now, I used think that running was a hobby. But, I came to the wild conclusion it isn't. I enjoy working and out and training for races, most of the time. But, I don't actually want to wake up early in the morning to do it.
What I would wake up for is to read, working on writing a fiction novel, or draw. These things I love to do. There is only a benefit to me. So, the question is what would get you up in the morning, if that was the only time you could do this fun activity?
How To Find Your Hobby
You to can find a new hobby, a new passion. It may seem overwhelming when there are so many options. Here is a way to help you eliminate the overwhelm.
1. Think back on hobbies that you did as a kid. What were you interested in? Try a hobby from your past, give it at least 3 tries. Make sure that you allow the time necessary to fully immerse yourself and have the right supplies to do it as you envision.
2. Learn something new. There are thousands of different hobbies to choose from out there. In order to help you learn some different ones that exist out there I suggest looking at CreativeLive and Craftsy. Both great places to take classes for hobbies of a creative nature.
3. If you are challenged by suggestion and 1 and 2, I will make 5 suggestions. Try writing, painting/drawing, rock climbing, baking, and learning to code. These are all very different hobbies, but hopefully one will appeal to you.
Now, lets get into the meat of it. A hobby is amazing, why?
Why Hobbies Are Amazing
Because it has the ability to take your mind off of everything else, hobbies are a form of relaxation. It is a break from accomplishing goals and ambitions. Your brain gets a break from everything else.
Your hobby will also provide you with a reset for your goals. Let me explain this. When you are working and fully engaged in a meaningful hobby, you stop thinking, worrying, or analyzing your other goals.
When you finish working on your hobby, your perspective of the day and all the possibilities will be changed. I found that I am even more excited to tackle my goals, but also more excited to set clear boundaries of how I spend my time.
I want to complete my goals, but not at the expense of my hobbies. My hobbies help me be me and I don’t want to sacrifice that or lose. So, the next time I work on one of my goals, I am focused, not stressed, and ready to work hard on the goal.
You will feel more satisfied with what you complete and excited to do more. You will want to make sure that you make time for a huge source of rejuvenation, your hobby.
Hobbies are NOT a time drain or distraction from our major goals in life. They are our rejuvenation of ourselves and who we are. Remember that you are more than your career, so much more.
