How many of us wish we had just a few more minutes in the day, maybe even an hour. I know some days feel like I get to use every minute of the day, where others feel like hours slipped through my fingers.
Here are a few tips to help you feel like you get to experience more of your day, by starting with what you do in the morning. The morning is a time when minutes get lost, there is a rush to be on time for work, and sleeping in take priority over the work out.
Here, you will see how to turn that around.
How Do You Spend Your Mornings
Think about how you spend your mornings. Is it a mad dash to the door, praying you aren't going to be late? Or do you have time to sit, eat breakfast, an scroll through your social media every morning?
Whatever your mornings are like, do you wish your days were more productive? Because the key is in your mornings.
What I am talking about is using the most valuable time of the day, to do what you want to do. Do you get home and wish that you had at least another hour for hobbies, exercise, or family time? Are you wishing that you weren't so tired or wasteful with your time in the evenings?
The key is in how you use your mornings.
Willpower Is In the Morning
Now, you may schedule your morning or you may just wake up to go to work in the morning. Know that whatever you do, your willpower is strongest in the morning. As we work through the day, we deplete our ability to make decisions and there for our will power.
The easiest example is of when we start a new diet or lifestyle change. Breakfast is easy, we eat the healthy food and move on with our day. By the time lunch rolls around we may be tempted to have a little treat, but manage to hold off.
Now if someone brings cupcakes around at 4 in the afternoon, you are more likely to cave, than when doughnuts are passed around in the morning.
What Will You Do In The Morning With Your Extra Time
Our brains are fully juiced and ready for the calling. Morning is the time we have to work on hobbies, our career, relationship or ourselves.
Now, waking up a little earlier can be challenging, especially if you are a night owl. But, if you truly are feeling that you don't have time to work on things you care about, the morning is the time to do it.
Think about this, there will be no emails, phone calls, or emergencies at 5am. Everyone is asleep. You can create a healthy habit of waking up even just 15 minutes earlier to get extra reading, prayer, meditation or organization in.
So, instead of thinking about trying to tackle your exercise after work, or your book list before bed, start thinking about your mornings.
Important, But Not Urgent Tasks Are a Must For the Morning Hours
The mornings are a time to create a ritual that "when regularly practiced results in long-term benefits." That means your can choose to nurture yourself, your career or your relationships.
All those things require continuous, regular practice.
Take some time for yourself in the morning. It can be restrictive to take time for yourself after work, if you are always getting home late. You feel crunched to unwind and start your hobby, when the weight of the day is still on your shoulders.
The mornings are a great time to guarantee your exercise is in, no matter how late you have to stay at work. It is time for prayer, meditation, and affirmations to help to keep your mindset clear, and ready for the day.
Take time for your hobbies. There is so much of you to love on, explore, and nurture.
Nurture Your Career
Depending on your career of choice, the morning is a great time to practice skills, or plan for a kick ass day. Take the time to practice the most important part of your career, whether writing, giving speeches, or solving problems.
If you have ambitious goals for your career the morning is also a great time to make a headway in competing priorities.
Nurture Your Relationship
This is a great time to have breakfast with roommates, friends, or a significant other. You can focus on being present and enjoying the people around you.
I hope you will look at your mornings and see the opportunity for yourself. Spend time doing what you love doing and want to do, in the morning.
