When you get overwhelmed everything feels like an uphill battle. There is just too much put on your shoulders too carry and you feel the burden of it all. Know that you are not alone. Overwhelm happens often, from making choices to managing busy lives.
We all have times of peace and relief, when maybe for just a day we feel like we can do it all without loosing our minds. But, overwhelm pops up again and we are stuck in fear of making the “wrong” choices.
Here, is a secret about overwhelm. It is not a because of how many choices you have or how much is on you plate. The state of overwhelm is a mindset.
The Brain Just Can’t Handle It All
Yes, you are the one who decides that this is a time to panic and become overwhelmed.
Now, it is not all your fault. In this age we have more choices and are able to put more on our plate than ever before. With that continuous drain our brains become overloaded, spazz out and just say now is the time to be afraid and kick in to overwhelm.
This is a completely natural response to being given too many choices and if they are really important, then there is a good chance your brain will try to sift through the choices and not be able to do it, with out you going into overwhelm.
Just because you can blame your brain for being unable to keep up sometimes, doesn’t mean you don’t get to step in to play your part. When you realize that you brain was just following something similar to a gut reaction. Everything after is now in your control.
You Have a Choice to Stay In Overwhelm Or Move Past It
Now, when you are aware that you are going into overwhelm, when you have given yourself far to many choices and feel the pressure of picking the “right” one, then it is time to act.
You have to change your thoughts and your vocabulary
Your inner dialogue can easily keep you in a state of overwhelm as much as it can get you out of it. If you are repeatedly telling yourself that you are so overwhelmed, so stressed, so busy, have no time, then you will believe it.
Stop, none of these comments help you in any way. Because, remember, overwhelm is a state of mind. Your brain went haywire, but your reaction to it will keep you stuck or get you out. The circumstances of your brain wanting to freak out, doesn’t mean that you don’t choose how you react to it.
Make a Choice
You have to make a choice and keep making them when overwhelm is triggered in your head. This helps train your brain that choices are being made and will be made, even in stressful conditions.
Don’t Worry About the Wrong Choice
The wrong choices will happen! Don’t worry, make a choice. Act on the choice and if you have to make a new choice later, then do it again.
Do not make a choice to then undermine it with fear, doubt, worry, regret, or confusion. Remember to control your thoughts. To train your brain through these situations you have to stick with the choices you make.
Fail and Make the Wrong Decision to Prevent Overwhelm
Seriously when choices have to be made, it is okay to just choose to make a choice, so you don’t go into overwhelm. Once you choose the wrong one it will be more clear what the right answer really is. So, make a choice!
